About Wincanton Racecourse
Wincanton Racecourse is a racecourse located a few miles north of Wincanton, Somerset. It’s about 16 miles northeast of Yeovil and 33 miles south of Bristol. So overall this is in a pretty rural part of the country. Despite its size, however, Wincanton Racecourse punches well above its weight in terms of quality. Moreover, it hosts multiple key races every season and draws in big crowds on race day too!
Wincanton Racecourse is now owned by Jockey Club Racecourses. So you can expect nothing less than state of the art facilities when you turn up here. Bars, private boxes, picnic areas, and hospitality packages are all on offer on race days!
Wincanton Racecourse only offers Jump racing at its venue. The track is rectangular and runs right-handed. Plus, it’s around two miles in length and has nine fences. The corners here aren’t too sharp either, so overall this is a pretty quick course.
Wincanton Racecourse is active during the winter months where it hosts 4 notable races. There first of those races, the Kingwell Hurdle takes place in February. This is a Grade 2 Hurdle which runs over 2 miles and with £60k for the prize pool.
The second big race takes place in November and is called the Badger Beers Silver Trophy. This is a handicap Chase which runs over 3m 1f and with a prize pool of £48k. The Elite Hurdle, which takes place in the same month, also has a £49k prize pool, but runs over 2m instead! The final notable race at Wincanton Racecourse each year is the Rising Stars Novices’ Chase. This is a Grade 2 steeplechase which runs over 2m 4f and has the smallest of all the prize pools at £25,600!
