About Wexford Racecourse
Wexford Racecourse is a racecourse located in the town of Wexford, County Wexford, Ireland. It’s way down on the Southeast coast of Ireland around 130 km south of Dublin. With a population of 20,000, plus the M11 offering a direct route from Dublin; Wexford Racecourse sees high attendances all year round. The earliest recording of racing at Wexford racecourse dates back as far as the 1870s. When first opened its doors, it was able to host both flat and national hunt events. However, as of the 1st June 2016, Wexford Racecourse switched to national hunt racing only.
When the change was made Wexford also switched from a right-handed to a left-handed run track. The course itself carries a distance of one mile, four-furlongs with an undulating landscape.
Primarily due to its location, Wexford racecourse doesn’t have any races of notoriety. Instead, Wexford is primarily for trainers looking to give their horse experience. As a result, many of the biggest up and coming horses make their way to Wexford, creating a lot of competitive races.
Wexford racecourse is a fantastic venue for those looking for more than just horse racing. There are few racecourses in Ireland which can match the quality of the facilities offered at Wexford. These facilities include a first-class restaurant selling tasty hot meals in a comfortable surrounding. These facilities all overlook the racetrack providing plenty of incredible views. There’s also a private room overlooking the racetrack which can be hired by the public. The rooms come complete with a private bar and a buffet as well. Plus there’s no shortage of public bars for you to make use too!
All in all, we’d recommend Wexford racecourse to everyone. Including those not even keen on horse racing! You’ll see some of the top prospects in the country race here while you enjoy their world-class venue!
