About Newbury Racecourse
Newbury Racecourse is a racecourse near the town of Newbury, Berkshire. It’s one of the UK’s premier racing venues with major races happening all year round. It also has great transport links and is only 60 miles west of London! That’s because they have Newbury train station has its own dedicated rail station!
Despite being one of the UK’s premier racecourses; Newbury Racecourse doesn’t quite have some others’ rich history! Newbury Racecourse had its first event in September 1905. However, the first race that took place in Newbury was 100 years earlier!
Newbury Racecourse offers both Flat and Jump racing at its venue. The course runs left-handed and is triangular in shape. It covers a distance of about one and a half miles with a 7 furlong straight attached. The track is undulating throughout and seen as one of the fairest courses in the country!
Newbury Racecourse is no stranger to big races! In fact, it hosts a notable race every month of the year except January! It hosts 32 notable races throughout the year including all three of Chase, Flat, and Hurdle races!
It also gets to host one of the UK’s 36 annual Group 1 Flat races. This race takes place during their May meeting every season. It’s run over a distance of 1-mile and is open to horses aged four or older. It also comes with one of the biggest prize pools for a race at £350k! Around £200k of that going to the winner! If you prefer Jump racing, then it’s their November meeting that will interest you. This 3-day meeting includes a Handicap and three Grade 2 Jump races!
