About Market Rasen Racecourse
Market Rasen Racecourse is a racecourse located in the town of Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. It’s one of the more rural racecourses around too. The closes city to Market Rasen is Lincoln which is 20 miles southwest; or Scunthorpe, which is 20 miles northwest. So it should be no surprise to hear Market Rasen Racecourse is one of the smallest in the UK.
However, it is owned by the Jockey Club, who do great work with their racecourses. So even if it’s small, you know it’s going to be a well-run venue!
Market Rasen Racecourse only offers Jump racing events throughout the year. The track runs right-handed with a length of around one and a quarter miles. What makes this track so tough though is its undulating track with sharp turns. Often, getting a finish in one of these races is a bit of a victory! Definitely, one of the most challenging courses to ride in the country!
It has only been in recent years that Market Rasen Racecourse can claim some notable races. Four races have risen to prominence over the last decade here at Market Hasen. These are:
- Prelude Handicap Hurdle
- Prelude Handicap Chase
- Summer Handicap Hurdle
- Summer Plate
These are split between two meetings, one in late July and the other in September. Both of the prelude races take place over 2 miles and 110 yards. These races have prize pools of around £28k. The two Summer races take place at their September meeting. These races are slightly longer going as long as two miles five furlongs. Again, these races offer prize pools of around £28k!
As we mentioned previously, Market Rasen Racecourse is owned by The Jockey Club. So it should go without saying Market Rasen has everything you’ll need for a day out. Restaurants, bars, open spaces, and picnic areas to name just a few!
