About Lingfield Park Racecourse
Lingfield Park Racecourse is a racecourse located in Lingfield, Surrey. It’s only 40 miles south of London with great transport links; so a relatively busy racecourse all the same. However, what makes this racecourse so special is its tracks! Lingfield Park is the only racecourse in the UK to offer all three of Flat-turf, Flat-all-weather, and Jump racing.
All three tracks at Lingfield Park Racecourse run left-handed. The all-weather track is the smallest of the three, measuring just less than a mile. The turf is much bigger though, is built around the edge of the all-weather track! It’s about a mile and a half in length finishing with a half-mile downhill straight. This makes Lingfield Park one of the biggest racecourses in the UK! Also, the turns here are quite sharp, making it a slow and difficult course too.
If you’re going to plan a trip to Lingfield Park Racecourse, we’d recommend doing so in the spring! This is when all 9 of their notable races take place; split across four months and five meetings.
Of these, two races stand out: the Winter Derby and the Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes.
The winter derby takes place in either late February or early March. It’s a Group 3 all-weather Flat race open to three-year-olds and runs over one mile two furlongs. This event started in 1998 and has a purse of £100k! Interestingly, Frankie Dettori got back-to-back wins in 2019 and 2020, making it his 4th victory since 2003!
The Chartwell Fillies Stakes is a Group 3 Flat race which takes place in May. It began in 1994 and is a 7-furlong sprint open to horses aged three and older. The race is actually named after Winston Churchill’s home and comes with a purse of £60k! Pat Eddery has the most victories in this race with three!
