About Leicester Racecourse
Leicester Racecourse is a racecourse located in the town of Oadby, just a few miles south of Leicester city centre. Being in the East Midlands offers plenty of advantages to Leicester Racecourse. For starters, being in the centre of the country means it’s easily accessible. Not just for fans, but for jockeys and trainers too! Moreover, Leicester Racecourse is also near a few major cities such as Leicester, Birmingham, Coventry, and Nottingham. Plus it’s an hour by train to London. So it’s one of the busiest racecourses in the UK!
Leicester offers up both Flat and Jump racing throughout the year. The track is a long oval-shape with downhill start and an uphill finish. The course runs right-handed with a length of around 2.6km. It’s a fast track but can take a real beating from the weather at times.
Everything should really point to Leicester Racecourse having more notable races than they currently do. They’re in a great part of the country, have a great track, plus offer 30 race days a year. Yet despite this, they only have one notable race every season.
This is the ‘King Richard III Stakes’ which takes place every year in April. It’s a flat race run over a distance of 7 furlongs and open to horses aged four and older. The purse for this race is pretty decent too standing at £60k. Enough to draw in some of the bigger talents every year!
If you’re looking for a day out, Leicester Racecourse is a good shout. They offer hospitality packages, private boxes, club rooms, pavilions, and picnic areas, to name just a few. Moreover, they have cool events on such as ladies day festivals and gin & prosecco evenings! Everything you will want for an excellent day out at the races!
