About Goodwood Racecourse
Goodwood Racecourse is located around 5 miles north of Chichester, on the English south coast. This is an excellent spot for a racecourse, for two main reasons. The first is you get the best weather in the country on the south coast. The second is it’s still close enough to London to pack the venue on race day! As a result, Goodwood Racecourse is one of the bigger racecourses in the country, hosting plenty of big events.
As for the track, Goodwood Racecourse only offers Flat racing. The course runs right-handed with an impressive distance of 3.8km! Goodwood has a unique shape with sharp bends and long sprints. The track is also quite hilly; however, the sprint at the end is relatively flat. Its short five-furlong sprint is the fastest in the country!
Goodwood Racecourse has more than its fair share of notable races. They have 23 of which they split across four meetings. Luckily, these are well spread out too with meetings in May, July/August, August, and September. It’s their five-day meeting held across July/August that you want to watch though! This is Goodwood Racecourse’s major event and hosts its three biggest races of the year.
The three races in question are the Sussex Stakes, Goodwood Cup, and the Nassau Stakes. All three of these races are Group 1 flat races taking place on the Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday of the event. Moreover, each has a purse of around £250k and has a length between one and two miles. If you’re going to travel to Goodwood Racecourse only once, it should be for this festival!
Fortunately, Goodwood Racecourse has made this as easy as possible. They have their very own hotel, a restaurant, plus if you’re a fan of golf they’re even got a golf course too!
