About Doncaster Racecourse

Doncaster Racecourse is located in the market town of Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Moreover, this is one of the bigger racecourses in the UK and one with a deep history too! Having excellent transport links while being in the centre of the country has helped it too. Horse racing first dates back here as far as the 16th century! By 1595, Doncaster Racecourse was already appearing on local maps.

Doncaster can proudly claim it hosts both Flat and Jump racing at its racecourse. The track is pear-shaped and runs left-handed for a distance of around 3100m. The central aspect of this course is the speed. Doncaster Racecourse is mostly flat all the way around without any sharp turns either. 

Notable Races

Doncaster is home to plenty of notable races throughout the season. There are notable races for both types here; however, their biggest race of the season is a Flat race. This four-day event takes place every year in September at the St Leger festival. Furthermore, the race runs a total distance of about 2921m with a purse of £700,000! So this is a race which draws a lot of attention each year – especially since its the final classic in the UK Flat racing season!

 Fortunately, this isn’t the only big event on at Doncaster Racecourse every year. Doncaster boasts an impressive 24 notable races with big racing months in January, March, and September.

 To host their 36 race meetings a year, Doncaster needs a state-of-the-art venue, and that’s just what they have! Doncaster has a food court, three separate restaurants, private boxes, and live music areas too! One of the cooler aspects here is Doncaster Racecourse also has a hotel attached too! A luxury hotel too in the Hilton Garden Inn! So with great transport links, a great venue, and great races; we’d rate this as one of the best racecourses in the country!
