About Chelmsford City Racecourse

Chelmsford City Racecourse is located in Great Leighs, just north of Chelmsford, Essex. It boasts being the newest racecourse in the UK – and by some margin too! The doors to the racecourse opened in 2008. This hadn’t happened since 1927, so it was quite the event at the time! Unfortunately, trouble followed Chelmsford City racecourse at the start of its tenure, and it went into administration in 2009. It’s doors reopened in 2015 however where it has been hosting events since.

Chelmsford City prides itself on its all-weather Polytrack circuit. Its inspiration has been taken from the Americans and as a result, Chelmsford City has meetings all year round!

Chelmsford City racecourse is oval in shape and covers a distance of just over one mile. The track runs left-handed and offers a reasonably flat surface throughout.
