About Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse
Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse is located in the village of Bangor-on-Dee near Wrexham, Wales. Being located in the northeast of Wales brings it many advantages too; namely, it’s not too far from Chester, Liverpool, or Manchester. As a result, Bangor-on-Dee sees more racing fans than you would typically expect for a small village! The racecourse is also one of the smallest racecourses in the UK too!
It hosts National Hunt events and is a left-handed course with an undulating surface. Moreover, the course has a length of one mile, three furlongs with a run-in of 300 yards!
Bangor-on-Dee racecourse first opened its doors in 1859. Since then, regular meetings have taken place with only two small breaks during the wars. In addition to its National Hunt Racing, Bangor also hosts amateur Point-to-Point races.
Interestingly, Bangor-on-Dee is one of the few venues in the UK without any notable races! This is mostly due to it’s proximity to Chester Racecourse, its sister company. They offer better facilities and is closer to those in the northwest. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any advantages to choosing Bangor-on-Dee, however!
There are still a few main selling points to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse. The first of those being that Bangor has one of the faster tracks on the circuit. If you’re looking for fast-paced action, this is one of the better destinations! Secondly, Bangor-on-Dee racecourse offers stunning views. This is one of the bigger advantages that come from being located in a village!
The final advantage comes from the prices, which are on the lower side. You can buy day tickets here for as little as £19 per person. If you’re looking for a cheap day, this could be it!
Plus, Bangor offers private race day facilities along with restaurant dining. So even though it’s a rural racecourse with no notable events; Bangor-on-Dee still makes for an excellent day out!
